Crazy Horse lament

by Grant Gilbert AKA Slash   Mar 4, 2013

Crazy Horse their heads hung low
Bikes all idling, running slow
A last ride to honour, a brother died
To grieve together with widowed bride

Louis Horn our brother died
Feels as though the world has sighed
Everyone is filled with grief
Death has crept like stealthy thief

Tragedy struck while passion flowed
Now pain and grief has been bestowed
This saddest day for Crazy Horse
Cannot compare to Ilse's loss

Every thought and private fear
Leads us to the edge of tears
Our brother died at the hands of fate
Sorrow felt we cannot relate

So brother, we lay you down to rest
Will Crazy Horse withstand the test
Like all hardships, I'm sure they will I do suspect
We salute you brother, with much love, honour and respect

Grant, this is a truly sad write but beautifully penned and one that I'm sure crazy horse will be proud of. It's never easy losing someone so close to us.

Thank you for your comment. Yes he was a good mate and it was sad to say goodbye like that. We have to do it to much lately

It's hard when we lose a beloved friend and comrade, Grant, and consequently, when they die, a part of us dies right along with them.
This is a wonderfully written ode to your fallen brother.
May Crazy Horse rest in peace...

Just rifling through those online and came across this lovely piece of yours Slash. Such a touching piece towards a "brother". Everyone sees bikers as rowdy and criminals, not realising they stand for honour and a brotherhood of sorts. Such a lovely tribute. :)

    Well done.

DD thank you so much. Yes you are correct i have people accuse me of extreme violence and of being a criminal based soley on my looks and my ride.
Apparently all large tattooed bikers are violent criminals.
And that as a first impression .

    Hello Grant,

Sometimes the writing we pen, trying hard, too hard at times turns out poorly. This however, is not like that at all. This poem has come from the heart and the feeling is meant and meant to be felt by the family and friends left behind. You are one of those friends and one gifted to be able to produce this poem. Respect to you too for reading it out. I know this is hard as I have done this too a few times, and like you I loath public speaking.

    Well done.
