A Couple Hundred Miles

by Darlene   Apr 26, 2013

As I loaded the car, I shed a thousand tears
Wanting so much to tell you what my heart fears
Putting so many miles between us, just somehow felt so wrong
Longing to stay beside you cause that's where my heart belongs
But you don't believe in love, I keep reminding myself
You say love will get you nowhere, so I put my love on a shelf

A couple hundred miles seems so far away
Counting those yellow lines all along the way
I spent years not believing, true love ever existed
But my heart and my soul, they persisted
And with every yellow line
A new tear drop falls

You're my first thought in the morning and you're in my dreams at night
I try to fight these thoughts of you, Lord I try with all my might
Months have come and gone and every line on this highway
Reminds me of you and the love I just threw away
Was I wrong to walk away, without taking a chance
If I had told you, would you have taken a second glance

A couple hundred miles is too far away
I miss you more and more every single day
I spent years not believing, true love ever existed
But my heart and my soul they persisted
With every thought of you
Love is tearing down these walls

Then one day out of the blue, I hear your voice on the line
You called to say "I'm coming home to you. It's just a matter of time."
You say you have always loved me, that you were just too blind to see
You say, "Just give me a chance." I say, "Come on home to me."
I took my love off the shelf, and I want to give it to you
Then I'll give you my soul, and a heart that will be true

A couple hundred miles, ain't so far away
I know you are finally coming home to stay
We spent years not believing , true love ever existed
But our hearts and our souls they persisted
And with every yellow line
My true love is coming home
