Devonshire Road

by Lifesbreath   May 13, 2013

The grasses freshly cut in lines
of intention. Leaning forward,
flying in the wind, the American
flags stand at attention.

Out, in front of the beauty
of historical homes are
beds of flowers, owls,
gnomes and stones.

One of the final places, America
still takes care to make our
country a home for family and
our children to be heir on their own.

Where the American Dream
lastly keeps and our kids play
in the streets, while knowing
the economy sleeps.

As the warmth of pink blossoms of
dogwood trees flow, as the winter's
first flurries of falling snow.
On Devonshire Road...

"What tomorrow brings, we do not know?"
but today we walk as the warm spring
breeze blows on this beautiful
summer's eve on Devonshire Road.

This poem is one that I read many times, and also one when read out loud brings it to life even more for me.

It's been quite some time since I've read a poem about America, and the author "Lifesbreath" took me on a patriotic journey in a sense, with a simplistic style, adding a nature scene as I read. I generally shy away from such types of poems, but with this piece I was hypnotized.. What a beautiful poem! Greatly adored this piece!!

Once again this is a real place I like to go walking at in Richmond, Va!

Its also a place we have in our mind as, The All-American ideal that is being lost year by year with traditions not being passed down of lineage and or family history along with job outsourcing.

Therefore, making the American Dream more elusive today. What is missing is Family. We focus on financial stability but neglect family as a result.

So please stop I see what we are missing and realize the real reason what made America great.

This screams all-American to me, the fresh cut lawn, the historical homes with the pristine flower gardens and a flag hanging on their front porch. The imagery here is absolutely fantastic, I felt like I was walking down the road of a beautiful neighborhood... almost has a 50's feel to it to me, because most people nowadays don't take the time to just enjoy the beauty around us.

Very serene feeling here. Love it!
