Just a kid

by Alice rider   Apr 23, 2018

He is only six
But he knows more than any other kid
He knows to leave his mother alone when she has a syringe
He knows the pain of seeing her scream
He had seen what it looks like when his mom did bad things
He watched his sister get hit with a glass ash trey
he is only six but he had been in more homes than his age
He has a difficult time opening up because he dont know when the next time he will move
He is just a kid but he has seen and heard things that should have never been

Alice, this was hard to read, not how you wrote it but the content. So many children get their start in horrific conditions, things that no child should ever experience. You told his story well..

    I had to nominate this.

So much of it resonated. My two have had really bad starts in life and witnessed things they never should have.

In some weird way it's brought them to me and mine. Sometimes the bad leads to good things.

So so pleased I found your poem

    Regards
