American Soldier

As i lay on my bed,
I think of the brave soldiers in my head

i think of their courage to do,
anything and everything through and through

away from their families for so very long,
they go into battle not knowing what will become
of the long drawn out weeks ahead of their crews
they can only hope for a scrape or a bruise

we think of them every day
most of us in the usual way

but it different for me
my cousin is leaving for the sea

he will be in the navy for many months
and i will sit around waiting for when he comes

Home to his family, home to his land, home from the sea,
but most of all, home to me
