The Tower of Distrust

by Anne Conner   Feb 5, 2006

A maiden fair went riding,
Out by the palace stream
And met a man so charming
Or so it would seem.

She gave him her trust,
And he gave her a veil
But she did not know the cost
She could not clearly see.

Finally she showed him
The city's secret stair,
That would lead to her palace
With no one else aware.

But while her father was gone,
Terror woke his realm.
For with it she had awaken,
With a frightened scream.

For the man had locked her in a tower
To lie in evil wait,
Killing all who would save her
For she was his bait.

Her tower is called distrust
And the man an evil liar
Because of her lost trust
And he the awful winner.

Now who was in the wrong?
Tell me if you dare.
For the man is a proud sinner
And I, the maiden fair.

One simple question I have
Who can I trust?
Who will rescue me,
From my tower of distrust?

Very well applied to real life, I can say. Whether or not the setting is of a fantasy sort, is has a very real message. Very good!
