I wanted to write about flowers

by libby   May 11, 2006

A flower blooms somewhere
petals sudden sharp piercing
and i'm having trouble breathing
but i'd never turn it down

tendrils twisting between fingers
displays of pink that demonstrate
how long it always seems to take
to step back, to step forward, step up

slide of grace, of cool petal-skin
complex teasing texture
but what do i know better
than the grains, the veins, the thorns?

a flower blooms somewhere
unfolding fragrances long entombed
it's like there wasn't room
for any of this before

a field of flowers explodes
in a rush of life, of pollen
i think i hear you calling
...i'm coming.

This is really good. You described everything well & you worded it good. The flow of it was really good. My favorite stanza was:
    tendrils twisting between fingers
    displays of pink that demonstrate
how long it always seems to take
to step back, to step forward, step up
    Great job on this.
