Walking the dog

by libby   May 25, 2006

A couple of years ago
i might have actively gone seeking this
attention.

now i feel their stares
and fill my field of vision
with cement. my dog could
never walk fast enough.

i'm aware of how
self-absorbed
i must look. telltale white headphones
snaking their way to my ears,
cell phone bulging obtrusively
from the pocket of too-tight jeans.

trendy long tank top that i liked
because i wouldn't have to worry
about hitching up my
low riders.

sometimes i wish i could
dress like a man
and get away with it.
