The classroom

by Panos   Feb 1, 2007

Another day has come and passed,
The memories have all amassed.
And with the troubles all surpassed,
One can advance throughout the class.

In this class one learns to walk,
One learns to talk,
To write with chalk.
One learns the answer to mystery,
To shed light on his own history.

One learns just why the caged bird sings,
One learns the joy that freedom brings.
And once hes learned what freedom brings,
He begins to hear contradicting things.

"Heathen" "heretic" "unholy man"
He hears these words, he cannot stand.
He learns just what hatred to him hands
And tears him apart at every strand.

"Oh why the hated? Why the bloodshed?
Why not instead
We raise our heads
Why not uncover our eyes and see the light
And realize the light is not so bright?"

And with these words he breaks a chain
And out flows love through a water main.
To alleviate the struggle of the human strain
And wipe clean from the earth the blood that stained.

In a day one can learn as much as this
And realize what mankind missed.
An incredible spectacle of new found bliss,
A bliss that we have too long resist.
