Valentines Day

by Willow   Feb 14, 2007

Red roses can be found everywhere,
Their beautiful scent filling the air.
Chocolate wrappers lying on the ground,
Secret admirers left to be found.

Corny cards and teddy bears,
Simple words saying they care.
Romantic dinners and a surprise gift,
Anxiously waiting for the privacy of the lift.

Hugs between close friends,
Helping those poor few hearts mend.
Passionate kisses for those in love,
Their hearts soaring high with the white doves.

Cupid's arrow has finally arrived,
Hitting it's target right on time.
Each year this is the way,
People express their love on Valentines Day.

I liked how this poem can be interpreted as both sad and happy. it seemed at face value cheerful, but on a second reading i discovered a more cynical attitude. well done, very well penned.
