Night

Cool air
and bright lights
roaring engines
and stars bright
spraying puddles
and black night
yelling voices
and fist fights
short breaths
and red face
pounding feet
but no haste

pop bottles
and broken glass
straight cement
and driving fast
fluttering moths
and street lights
overhead
and blazing white
What time is it?
and no one knows
grinning faces
but torn clothes

ready to kill
too much time
cement wall
ready to climb
up and over
land on your feet
keep on running
busy street
buzzing air
the smell of grease
slapping pavement
noisy peace
slower running
come to a stop
sit on the curb
continue to talk
stare at the sky
black with stars
reach out
they are not too far
night air
breathe in
sit back
watch tires spin
don't worry about
the next day
morning's still
far away
