New Best Friend

by Rod   Jun 13, 2007

Gentle breeze blowing through tall soft grass,
summer ends but sweet memories last.
My eyes and heart are open to romantic possibilities,
I was a strong oak, now I am a weak willow tree.

I watched you from afar, your style your grace,
the way you spread compassion,
the way you bring love to your space.

I talked to you for hours on a moon-lit night,
I disclosed much too much, gave too much insight.
I wanted you to know just who I am,
I wanted you to see the transparent soul of the man.

We're supposed to play the game,
I guess.
Creating challenge and mystery,
taking it slow--more or less.

I know the game works and play it with the best,
but when you look at me--
the game is useless.

I wanted to hold you close and softly kiss your lips,
I wanted to feel your satin skin beneath my fingertips.
I searched your brown eyes for a sign of love,
I sought your heart just because...

I didn't want mine to feel alone.

You were with me even in my sleep
the promises I made I plan to keep,
I started the night hoping for a nice date,
It ended with an electric kiss from my new best friend

and soul mate.
