Cactus

by Kris   Nov 1, 2007

Cactus waving hi,
while driving by.

Some with arms outstretched toward the sky,
giving praise to God on high.

Cactus together,
singing praise as one.

Those alone,
felt sad for.

Then there were the ones giving hi fives,
as if saying to one another a job well done.

The cactus family,
together they stood.

The playful ones,
playing hide and seek,
plus peek a boo.

A few here and there,
in a corner they sat.

Then the cactus all up and down the mountain side,
like they were getting ready for a fight.
To save their land from bitter attack of machine
and man.

That is how the cactus looked to me one day while
driving by.

I was in Arizona for a while and loved the cactus I saw. It did hurt to see those that had been, for lack of a better word, harvested to sell to people for their yards. They should be left alone to stand where they are. Well done.

If i could I would volunteer to be a cactus for the day they fight and help them against the sharpe tongues of what some people call progress. I only have one poem in the nature catagory but I enjoy that part of this site quite a bit. I find very good poetry here where they aren't complicated by the words of love that sometimes loose their meaning. Nice write - bravo
