To Your Everlasting Dismay

by RB   Feb 11, 2008

You've always been the one to make my mind race,
As you repeatedly leave without a lingering trace.
Just want to be held close in the quiet of your embrace,
There's truly no need to let these tears upon my face.

I know you despise my attachment to you,
And discretely my heart strings you try to undo,
Why do you hate that my love for you is true?
Definitely there are worse things I could do.

Slapping me with words meant to be real,
The confusion of what I inexplicably feel.
When together it's my sadness you steal,
Leaving only emptiness to help me heal.

If you truly must escape from it all,
Pay no attention when your name I call.
You'll have to stop catching me every time I fall.
Because I'll only learn to walk if you let me crawl.

This is not the choice I would ever make,
For it would only put my happiness at stake.
I'd rather believe the love you tend to fake,
Then allow my defenseless heart to break.

After your affection I'll continually chase,
Hooked on your sweetly bitter taste.
I gave you my heart in utter haste,
Still refuse to believe it was ever a waste.

So if by chance it all goes my way,
Locked in your heart I will choose to stay,
And sadly to your everlasting dismay,
These are the words I'll be sure to say:

You've always been the one to make my mind race,
As you repeatedly leave without a lingering trace.
Just want to be held close in the quiet of your embrace,
There's truly no need to let these tears upon my face.
