An Inevitable Come Down

by Meghan   Feb 13, 2008

Flashing blurs of memory
Dreaming of what used to be
Wishing for what never was,
My fragile heart is cold because,
Quickly exiting stage right,
Without a bow you left last night.
Soundlessly I mouthed â??encore,â??
My blind approval was ignored.
With a loveless kiss and clichéd act,
Suitcase in hand, you looked not back.

Curtains up, tears flushed away,
Plaster a smile. Begin the play.
Soon a shallow audience
Will praise our work as hypocrites,
And each soft thought of softer lips,
Will never cause a tear to slip.
Simply actors, we grace the stage,
Our corroding souls remaining caged.
As we mindlessly recite trite lines,
The Eternal Poet looks on and cries.
