Letting Go

by ari   Feb 20, 2008

Don't let go.
Hold onto this moment forever, or at least
until your hand stops holding mine.
Breathe you in, I want to hold it in forever.
You'll be my dying breath.
Your promises don't mean anything unless they're
whispered in my ear beneath this endless sky
oh so sweetly.
Our possibilities are as numerous as the stars.
I love you could fly me to the moon on delicate wings.
This atmosphere would immortalize those murmured
sentiments that would later melt on my tongue.
I would white out this blackness to bring to light
what only you and I could see.
We're the only thing that matters while this clock
remains still and silent.
The numbers on mother-of-pearl faces don't add up,
and we're escaping as the last grains of sand
slip through eternity's fingers.
Can we run fast enough for this beating heart of mine?
Catch our souls as we draw nearer to deliverance.
Hold our truths behind battered rib cages.
You know all my lies and have heard all my confessions.
Keep them grasped in the clutches of your heart
that I'm still trying to make sense of.
Let me know I'm safe here.
I will be saved again.
Just don't let go.
