An End To War

by Beautifully Disfigured   Mar 17, 2008

I havent quite figured out
what is going on over there
are we fighting just to fight
and has our president lost his sight

i cant quite see
what everyone sees
Are we fighting for control?
or maybe just to show we can?

are we fighting for our freedom?
or because of Uncle Sam
what about the way they hate us
spit at our soldiers feet

what about the way we control them
and can not accept defeat

i am at a loss to this mess
theres no point in reading less
you will hear about it daily
even in the schools history

but in my eyes i see something different
i dont see a terrorist country
i see war that has no use
that all my friends feel compelled to fight

To Dustin and Roger
my heros to the end
To Jason and Aaron
whose lives have only to just begin

And to Michelle and David
two I care deeply for
theres only one thing I can say
"Put an end to this war!"

It has humungo potential. The content is all there, it just isnt set up very well. You have a structure, however with couplets each set should have a complete thought. Here they continue to the next set. Perhaps theyd be better with stanzas made of 4 lines? And a rhyme scheme (with couplets, or 4 lines) will help tie it together. Free verse is fine in most occasions, but there are times when it needs that extra something to pull it all together
