The Finish Line Of Broken Hearts

by RB   Mar 21, 2008

Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. You know I've memorized these words,
And I hope your ears are ready, for what I'm about to say,
For my ears are already accustomed to the pain they bring,
And sometimes the cold truth is the only way to bring comfort.
You'll despise me for these words that linger on the tip of my tongue,
And you'll hate me for what you'll call "not trying harder"
But I've never fought so hard to keep fire alive in rain,
And sometimes you just need to give up on the impossible,
Everything I was in your eyes was nothing I could ever be in mine,
For holding me made you feel like you held the world,
And holding you made me feel like a part of me was missing.
It scared me when I felt nothing at all, nothing like I used to feel,
Nothing like our ever consuming love that unimaginably faded,
And it was then that I stumbled upon this necessary realization,
That sometimes you need to let your heartbreak just to feel.
Like magnets our hearts endlessly gravitated towards each other,
So turning my back to you wasn't as easy as it may have appeared,
But the further apart magnets lay, the less attraction they share,
And so now I'm racing to the finish line, the finish line of broken hearts.
