T-Bone

by Richard S   Apr 3, 2008

We got him when "the girl" was four,
A show dog the breeder rejected.
His hair wasn't perfect,
Though down to the floor.
But we loved him once we inspected.

T-bone-asaurus-rex his name was on the paper charter.
T-Bone was who he was to us.
No doggie could be smarter.
A healthy eater he was too,
An even better farter.

He'd sit at the window watching for trouble,
And that meant anything passing.
Then he'd snarl and snort,
And even retort.
His excitement inside would be massing.

His ears would stand straight,
If he could get out of the gate,
He'd establish his territory.
He'd stand very tall and show one and all,
And make them be real sorry.

And if he should view a squirrel or a few,
And he happened to be in the park.
He'd run like the wind,
And hang from his chin,
His teeth tearing into the bark.

And as he got older and got even bolder,
And found a way under the gate.
We'd call out his name,
Our attempt would be lame,
But he'd come back before it got late.

Sixteen years have come and gone,
He always stayed a pup,
Until that day,
He wouldn't play.
We could not wake him up.

The little girl cried and everyone sighed,
As we remembered the love that he gave.
We'll miss him so much,
Our lives he did touch,
We'll all have to try to be brave.
