A lifetime...

by matthew ridgeway   Apr 19, 2008

It doesn't matter if it takes me a lifetime to write this poem to you.

For that is how long my feelings will remain true.

I can't understand how to make you see my real intention.

I want to make you more than happy, not cause contention.

This love I feel is honest and good, the truth finally.

These feelings cannot be denied, they will recur eternally.

This love will not stop, it will never go away.

It can only grow stronger with each passing day.

So I give to you my heart on a plate.

And ask that you take care of it's fate.

It is yours to keep, to have and to hold,

It is only you that can make it become more bold.

It will grow in your hands like you've never seen before.

Why? Can't you see? It's because it's you that I adore.

I thought this poem would take much longer to write.

I thought it would be hard to epitomise my plight.

The words are flowing free straight from my heart.

No sticky fingers or tears because we are apart.

A desire to move on, with you in my life.

No sacrifices, nor grief or trouble and strife.

This poem should never finish, that is the way.

As life goes on, it should change every day.
