City Lights

by Brittney Michele   May 4, 2008

These city lights they shine so bright
They mess with the light I see in your eyes tonight
Face illuminated from the gentle glow
Your smile sending chills into my bones
But if I could hold you in my arms tonight
Would mean more than you could ever give
Words all around me
Playing over in my mind
Teeth clenched and eyes shut tight
Struggling to hold my tears behind
Body shaking, fighting my fears
Hiding my dishonesty, saying this is right
Memories forcing a way back in
Reminding me of all the past tense
Forgiving but not forgetting
A sorrowful weakness of mine
Eyes shine bright
Burning into mine
Reaching deep inside
Tearing out my heart and placing it on my sleeve
So you can read it like a book
Closing a chapter to start another filled endlessly
A romance novel filled from front to end
Mistakes we both can never take back
Painful words I wish to never speak again
Only replaying in the back of my mind
A year filled with sorrow
A year filled with pain
With no one to blame
A year filled with love
Shared between you and I
Experiences I wished to never endure
But to face these with you
I believe has only made us stronger
Has made my love for you grow
The simple words you speak
The taste off your lips
Your eyes as they stair into mine
Your touch as your holding me in your arms
Remembering this time last year
When I thought you were a dream
Remembering this time last year
The year I fell so far in love with you.
