Blame it on us

by travis   May 15, 2008

Today young chillin
Are chillin
That’s right I called these children chilln
Because all they do is stay on the block just chillin
Standin on the corner drug dealin
I know this drug dealer named supply
Supply the drugs to kids making their brains fry and die
Mom’s at the funeral crying
Kids drivin Hondas and Scions
Police found out it was stolen so now all they hear is sirens
Going to school pick up the book and all I hear is sighin
Never see kids in school always suspended for fightin
Governor taking money from our schools
No one takes us serious because we view the improper things as cool
Lowell and Wallenburg making A’s and B’s
O’Connell and other colored schools makin C’s and D’s
Some of these kids are even poppin E

Blame it on us for our own educated corruption
Blame it on us for our own lives’ destruction
Teachers even gave up on our youth’s construction
Because how are they going to work with something that can’t function
Kids using calculators not knowing what numbers to punch in
Feels like we been thrown in a pool and just sunk in
17 year old kids reading books with their stutterin
Words all over the place flutterin
Reading report cards see that they’re flunkin

Blame it on us for our depleaded society
Blame it on us for our non-sense philosophy
We chillin not trippen on what we’re about to be
Fulfilling prophecy in Timothy
Taking the cake like our enemy

Blame it on us for our increasing dropout rate
Blame it on us for believing that this was our fate

But I blame it on you for your negleageance
I blame it on you for your passive assistance
I blame it on you for lending a helping hand but didn’t allow me to grab
I blame it on you for displaying scholarships in the 12th grade but never showing me b4 the potential I had

No one can stop me with this pen and pad
Poetry at this school used to be borin UNTIL I MADE IT THE NEW FAD
Showing kids what they can’t see for themselves leading them to the promise land showing them what they could have
My 55 words are exceeded but I got more to say
All 5 judges at the poetry slam like please Trav no more today
