Spider and The Fly

by Dion Avramides   May 18, 2008

The web complete the spider shouts thrill,
Stomach growling its eager to fill,
The fly buzzes close with noise of its wings,
A sound so heavenly to the spider it sings.

The spider hides gently around the web's coast,
It sets the trap, so eager is the host,
The fly unaware of the violence foresaw,
Through its treacherous shallows it will not withdraw.

The spider smiles as its nets are spread,
and feels far off the trembling of the thread,
Deep ambushed in the silent den it lies,
Those filmy cord should bind the struggling fly.

Then, if at last the fly finds himself fast beset,
The spider issues forth, joyous to touch the captive in its nest.
The spider drags the little fly into her home,
And then sits triumphantly on her throne.
