Memorial Day

by x Mo x   May 26, 2008

Majestic mountains hide behind spring clouds.
Each cloud sloping to the valley floor.
Soft, spring rain sprinkles to the hills.
The helicopter approaches with a growing roar.

The flags dance wildly in the newly created breeze.
The crowd watches in amazement and awe.
Music fills the frozen air with joy and pleasure.
Each child applauds in honor of their grandpas.

Rain continues to fall onto the lawn.
The heavens mourn the loss of those at war.
Each branches' flag stands with poise,
Reminding us we're the ones they were fighting for.

Anthem's words burst from the hearts.
Cheers and tears mix in the rain.
A twenty-one gun salute for the dead.
Thanking those who still remain.

One final prayer for those who fight.
It's the least and the most that we can do,
To support our nation's heroes in their battle.
This is our way of saying "Thank you."
