Welcome to Iowa

by adroit   Jun 16, 2008

The day grows as dark as night falling
The clouds gather
Walling you in
There's no escape
The wind tears at you
Screams at you
The trees shake and sway
As if trying to get away
Trying to break from their earthly bounds
The clouds rumble ominously
Then suddenly there's a huge crash
And a blinding flash
And a tree bursts into flames
The horse in the pasture gives a shrieking neigh
And gallops for the stable
Then comes the rain
One drop at a time
Then it is pouring down
Blinding and full of mist
The air is heavy and humid
Trying to take your breath away
The ground is wet
And only gets wetter
Puddles form in the fields
The puddles grow to ponds
The ditches by the road turn to rivers
The thunder still crashes
Bolts light up the sky
The wind moans mournfully
Down comes the hail
Hitting you in icy chunks
Like many bee stings
But slowly
Ever so slowly
The storm moves away
The thunder begins to rumble
More softly
Almost like the purr of a giant cat
Then its over
And its sunny once more
The sky is so blue
The world looks fresh and new
The biggest difference is
That the tree is still smoking
Ah, welcome to Iowa

What lovely vivid graphic pictures you form in my mind well done I live in on the south eastern coast of South Africa and it doesn't rain much here so to me this is quite special. We very often have enforced water restrictions.
