The Only Light in the Shadow of Goodbye

Oh, I've got a lot to say.
It's all built up since you went away.

I don't know what went wrong.
This is just like all the other heart breaking songs.

We started with hello, ended with goodbye.
I just wanted to disappear, or have a chance to fly.

To escape from your leaving.
My body, however, was deceiving.

Instead, I lay here in a shadow
Of a forgotten world that no longer has anything to follow.

I feel so lost and alone inside.
Still wishing you were by my side.

Feeling bad for myself will get me nowhere.
So, I drift to the memories we once shared.

The kisses on my forehead.
All the sweet words you said.

Long, lazy days spent cuddling with each other.
Talking of dreams of always being together.

Not a moment with you will I regret.
You are someone I will never forget.

A smile and happiness you always supplied.
Our memories are the only light in the shadow of goodbye.

    Oh, how those memories are bittersweet? As they enter your mind, usually upon waking, they deceive you into thinking all is well, all is happy and there is no pain. Wrong! Realilty kicks in as you realise that your love has gone, never to return, never to have the chance to repeat those sweet, so loving memories. In the shadows of goodbye the light makes you smile then cry!!!

    I like your style of writing. It is very creative. This poem is sad, but it is very beautiful.
