Snowflakes

Snowflakes

Hypnotized by your beauty I know
Unable to tear my eyes from you
Entranced by your heavenly glow

With hair as red as the setting sun
And emerald eyes brighter than any gem
And a smile that is matched by none

You steal my heart away from me
Like the night is stolen by the day
And root my legs so I cannot flee

Finding my voice at last I ask
What it would take to win you heart
You smile and set a single task

You ask me to go forth and procure
Something beautiful and delicate
An item so innocent and pure

Growing wide your eyes twinkle and shine
And you send me forth on my journey
To bring you back a snowflake so fine

I search down in the deepest valley
and high up on the biggest mountain
as the journey begins to take it's tally

At last I come to a frozen land
A land as cold as the darkest heart
And as it falls I catch the snow in my hand

Holding the snowflakes as softly as I can
I begin my long journey home
Drawing near I spot a solitary man

Looking I can see a sadness in his face
A deep sadness engulfing him
Concerned for him I quicken my pace

Your father I suddenly recognize him
He tells me that you grew ill and died
I feel my heart falter and dim

Running to your house I find the stone
Kneeling I feel my heart break apart
Never have I felt so cold and alone

I offer you the snowflakes from those far off lands
Looking down to realize
There's nothing but a pool of water in my hands
