The Sparrow And His Rose

by Miyako   Oct 9, 2008

Once there lived a sparrow,
and what a darling he was,
thought he had borne
a terrible horrible curse.

He could never find love,
no matter how hard he tried.
Yet despite the sorrow,
his hope never died.

One day he saw a rose,
as white as can be.
The most beautiful one,
as far as the eye could see.

He fell in love,
undeniably, irrevocably.
He swore the feeling was,
forever, eternally.

With the last of his hope,
he told her he loved her.
Yet as she was a rose,
she could not answer.

Crushed he was,
with her lack of response.
He gave her his life,
upon her very own thorns.

Painting her with his blood,
he gave her his love.
And as he fell dead,
crimson tears covered the earth.

The rose, now red,
surged with emotion.
She cried that their love,
never did come into fruition.

She dropped her petals,
one by one.
Until he was covered,
her life was done.

Devoid of her love,
she fell over dead.
Covering the very last of him,
with her very own head.

Nothing is ever sadder,
than a love born and lost.
When fiery passion dies,
and brings upon the frost.
