Head and Heart

by Richard S   Nov 2, 2008

Apollo, god of REASON and TRUTH.
Brother of Artemis the CHASTE huntress.
Paeans are sung to you,
As you bring HARMONY and ORDER.
We also know how you can conjure illness.

Illness indeed.
And so it is with the RATIONAL.
Carelessly we may REASON our way out of true LOVE.
Away from pure ECSTASY.

Dionysus, god of ECSTASY and DISORDER.
Brother of Apollo.
We raise the Borghese Vase and toast you with the wine within.
You free us from our NORMAL self.
To you we plant seeds in the theatre of ABANDON.

The Head tells not to love too hard,
For fear of losing ourselves.
Losing our sense of self to someone else.
Giving up some INDIVIDUALITY.
Giving in to the POWER of LOVE.
GIVING.

The Heart would have us LIBERATE ourselves.
LIBERATE ourselves from ourselves.
In the spirit the the BULL, the SERPENT and IVY,
You bring an end to CARE and WORRY.
Taking is right.
Take on the power of LOVE.
TAKE.

Foolish are those who walk with only one brother.
One will counsel us away from giving.
The other out of taking on.

REASON without ABANDON,
Can only lead to PLASTIC BEAUTY.
No risk.
No real life.
No REAL love.

ABANDON without REASON,
Will give no EQUATION for love.
No JOY in the THOUGHTS behind the FEELINGS.
No RATIONALE to my love for YOU.

So Apollo sits in my head,
And Dionysus is in my heart.
And through their constant dialog,
My love for you can become,
INSANELY RATIONAL.

We call upon Apollo,
To give form to his brother's passions.
We call for MUSIC,
So we may do our WEDDING DANCE.

I love this stanza from your poem"REASON without ABANDON,
Can only lead to PLASTIC BEAUTY.
    No risk.
    No real life.
    No REAL love.'
Sometimes love do bring fears that we are afraid to invest our all into a relationship, so we think the better is to stop. Which we'd no reasons at all. This poem makes me think what is most important in life. Great write, kel.
