We're Just Friends.

Looking across a crowded room,
I only see you.
Everyone else disappears
and I'm stuck in a trance.
Your face is all I see,
your eyes, your smile.
Your laughter fills my head.
Finally you notice me,
smile, and wave.
I blush unexpectedly,
and turn before you see.
"Good morning beautiful."
is all I can think.
The bell rings
and I'm off to class.
"Bye-bye beautiful."
We smile at each other in the halls,
sometimes hug, but never more.
Everyone knows we're just friends.
We finally get to talk alone,
standing in the hallway.
You're talking about your plans,
I'm wishing they included me.
You tell a joke,
I laugh.
Every thing's perfect here in our little world.
Mid-sentence, and here are his arms around my waist,
a kiss on the cheek, and "What's up, babe?"
I frown for a second
and then I remember:
I'm not yours. I belong to him.
I have his heart, I think,
and he has mine under lock-and-key.
You shrug, I give that disappointed smile,
and we go our separate ways.
"What was that about?"
"Oh nothing," I reply,
"We're just friends."
