My butterfly heart

by rebeccasarah   Mar 11, 2009

My heart is like a butterfly
so gullable and fragile.
trapped in your cage of make belief,
and left in a net of denial.

those lies it thought were to be true
"i love you, i need you, and forever i'll care."
it learned the hard way
that to mean it like that, is entirely rare.

and what was once a bond of love, is now broken.
unleashing it to soar in the empty sky.
the poor butterfly took the bait
from your tricks so clever and sly.

at last is the end, its too weak to continue,
and the final stroke sounds.
the knawing heart rips in my chest,
and i know the last beat, as it pounds.
