Duet

Duet

*It started out as a poem, but as you can see just by the title, it turned into a sort of lyrical ballad/song. Note: at the end, you read the "both" as if they were singing it simultaneously*

Man:

Well, she's weak and she's wild
She laughs and jests like child
She'll confess herself then try to hide
Her lively smile conceals her dark eyes
She's coy and clever and never denies me
Oh and her love is as true as can be.

One moment she's in tears,
the next she's hysterical
I scorn her when she praises my fears
like it's some kind of miracle
She only shows what she wants me to see
But her love is as true as can be.

She's frequently lost and always dreaming
But she doesn't mind as long as she has me
She can take care of herself
but she'd rather take care of me
And though I tell her no, do nothing
Still, her love is true as can be.

She'll argue like a disciple of love
When I criticize her faith from above
Always misses my voice and will often cry
every time I deny her and change my mind
She soothes and sometimes drives me crazy,
But her love is as true as can be.

She always asks for a kiss or a dance
a profession of love or a second chance
And whenever I give in, or give up
All she secretly wants to do is lift me up
She's brought out the best and worst in me,
But her love is as true as can be.

Yes, her love is as true as can be.

Woman:

He often broods but scarcely dreams
He's more damaged then he lets on to believe
He can be contemplative or completely selfless
He makes me yearn for him till I'm helpless
And he's just as damned as he wishes to be
But he's always the lover for me.

When I'm crying, he'll try to make me laugh
He knows where hes going but alas, has no path
He teases and jests, he knows how to play the fool
His indifference can burn, but hes never cruel
Hes naive and feeble and as broken as can be
But he's always the lover for me.

Sometimes all he wants is for me to smile
or to prove me wrong with rashness and guile
He needs not my body and withholds affection
But his comforting words are my protection
His emotions often drive me to the extreme
Oh he's always the lover for me.

He often sings and can create sweet melodies
He pursues and persists and only wants to please
He's dark and despondent and can feel defeated
And all I yearn is for me to be the cure he needed
He's stolen my heart like a cavalier thief
But he's always the lover for me.

Yes, he's always the lover for me.

Man:
(Yes, her love is as true as can be...)
Woman:
(Yes, he's always the lover for me...)
Both:
Yes, she may drive my crazy
(...Oh he drives me crazy...)
But she's brought out the best
He's brought out the best...
And better than the rest...
And he's stolen my heart,
just like a thief...
But he's always the lover
...She's always the lover
Yes, she's always the lover for me
...He's always the lover for me...
And her love is as true as can be.
And his love is as true as can be.
