Old Wounds

by Richard S   Apr 23, 2009

Thirty years gives time to pause,
To look at what have been our flaws.
Retract the blood stained razor claws,
And give ourselves relief.

I've seen your photos on the net.
Compassionate with no regret.
A happy life of no upset.
Time erased the grief.

I'm happy too if you must know.
Content with all that I do sow,
Knowing that we all do grow.
I like myself anew.

Can we put the past behind,
Accepting qualities that combined,
To view each other as defined,
Not so much askew.

Qualities that drew you near,
Have found themselves with kindred peer,
And those in life who would but jeer,
Understand you not.

So let the past be left behind,
And lest we view ourselves unkind,
Let tangled strings of hate unwind.
Embrace our lessons taught.
