That day

It was just that kind of day
When you wanted to sleep
And I wanted to do something
But didn't know what I wanted to do

When the sun was hottest and,
It was best to go swimming
Only I didn't want to get darker
And you were already too dark

The kind of day when the sky is blue
And there aren't any clouds
The air conditioner at full blast and,
We would sweat just sitting

When the glass on the windows melted and,
It seemed possible to cook eggs on the pavement and,
Worms dried on the sidewalk and,
Butter themselves up for reincarnation

The kind of day when sex wasn't an option
When you wanted to chill
And I wanted to be productive
But we couldn't agree on a plan

When you would tell me to do nothing
And I would tell you to not be lazy
You would get red face and tell me I was annoying
And I would get butt hurt and tell you I hated you

The kind of day where I kicked you out of the house
And you said you would never come back
Only to be holding flowers outside my door
And playing off tune music in my driveway

When you would stay out on the porch all night
And I would forgive you
You would wrap me in your arms and
Sing me to sleep because the night was actually chilly

It was that kind of day
When we had that last argument
And you never came back to my door
To play off tune music in my driveway

It was that kind of day
When I lost you.
