Acedia ~ Absence of Caring

by Ahmed Ali   Jun 9, 2009

I've stared far too long into the sky,
And let everybody in my life pass me by.
Hiding behind worlds of no rhyme or reason.
Letting the present slip past from season to season.

I could have made her day special,
As she could have also made mine.
We could have walked the halls of school together,
Bit by bit, trading smiles.

She could have held my hand haphazardly,
And in turn I could have kissed her cheeks.
We could have driven to the stars aimlessly,
Even if it's just a short distance that we could have reached.

We could have had our cherished moments,
By just letting things run their course.
Only if she just had the courage to speak to me,
And if I hadn't ignored the opportunities set before.

I'm wrapped in an illusion that nobody can define.
It's a picture imperfect world that's a stranger to the sublime.
It's time to make my daring move into the other-side.
And gain an abundance of experience from life's roller-coaster wild.

But what if I fly too high and it's you that I no longer see?
Then I may never find out the possibility of what could, from you and me.
Or perhaps I'm blindly over-thinking this whole bit, just way too much.
Contemplating on an idea that has never been, as so much as touched.

In life you make 3 choices:
Saying Yes, saying No, and doing nothing at all.
I have sinned by doing far too much of nothing,
Being selfish in my own world, thinking - no harm, no foul.

Don't be afraid to touch lives,
And place yourself into the hearts of one or many.
As you take care of theirs they will take care of yours,
In turn, making the most out of life's uncertainties.

When chance visits, say Yes, say No,
Do something, be bold & make a move.
Just always remember, without the magic of courage:
Is a reality where dreams do not come true.
