The Lion

by Rachel RTVW   Aug 5, 2009

Through the bars people stare at me
What a mighty meal they'd be
If just for once a gate wouldn't close
Or if I could bite my trainer's toes

When in my native habitat
I don't seem like so large a cat
Land to roam for miles and more
Many species to hunt, chances to score

Now in captivity I bask in the sun
This little place, no room to run
I pace around the perimeter
Golden orange, my mane of fur

Wish my eyes could melt these bars
Chase you all back to your cars
And once again I'd be in charge
King of the land for I am that large

Very different and original, I smiled as I read it. It was great imagery at the same time made me feel for the animal.
