Beautiful Night

by DaNii   Aug 5, 2009

The sun was sitting low on the dark horizon. Velvet against the ever darkening sky. Mist danced in and out of the shimmering leaves of the trees. Each leaf had its own dance, each swaying with its own unique style, raindrops poucned on them from the black bleached sky.

The sun slowly died as the horizon engulfed it, nibbling at the edges, until i was left jagged. This left only a dim flock of silvery blue whisps of clouds in the surrounding cold sky. Dark clouds thundered over head.

The rain grew more destructive and began to smudge the atmosphere into a bleak blur. The wind whistled through the gnarled trunks of the trees, which bent heavily with the force being thrown behind them.

As each raindrop hit the cyan skin of the lake beneath, it opened a hole where it had hit, and the rest of the water slowly recoiled back to fill the wound. This all happened so quickly that all you could hear was the splashes of each visous drop tearing at the surface.

It was then that the sky opened and a crack of deafening ochre light sprayed through the sky. It growled angrily and made the cracking noise again, getting louder and more impatient. The noises echoed through the forest. No longer could you hear a jaybird singing, or a beetle scurrying. Only the threats of the livid thunder partrooding in the heavens.

With each crash, the whole forest lit up in gold light. The forest became beautiful again, with the trees, entwined with shaggy vines and vibrant flowers.

The floor, with matted grass, teaming with wildlife.

The moon, pale and delicate in the ageing sky, shining last signs of hope, the soon, dawn would come, and the fight would be over.
