Hook-ups and Lullabies

by delima rose   Dec 15, 2009

Once there was a boy
I saw through his disguise

He walked around with his head held high
Living his life through hook-ups and lies

I'd sit in a corner and watch him make his move
He holds her hand, whispering softly in her ear

Saying meaningless words
Evoking meaningless praises

She gushes and blushes
Adding the boy on top of her pile of crushes

Then as the night wears on
He changes direction
Discarding her,
But she doesn't see the connection

She cries on the side line
Mascara running down her face
Watching the boy hook up
From all different direction

He holds their hands
And whisper things
And just like her they fell so deep

His voice played out like a lullaby
Putting rational thoughts to sleep

But as the day breaks
A small ember alights in his head

He slowly creeps out unnoticed
Catches a cab back to a quiet street

He stands beneath the window of a girl
He tosses pebbles as the sun goes up

I open the window and smile at him
He holds my hand, and whisper things
His voice like a gentle lullaby in my ear
And just like that he's mine again
