Nightingale

by Summer   Feb 21, 2010

Dearest, Darling Nightingale-
From which of Heaven's Kingdoms does thou'st hail?

For Verily, I say to thee,
Thou reigns in Angels' Jubilee
And inspiring to Men and me-
Thou casts thine eyes so beautifully

Does thou knowest of my plight-
Unraveled mind, reluctant night-
For which ye lay down your life and fight-
And tie thou heartstrings ever-tight?

Sound the trumpets, old and young!
Wet thy lips, inflame thy lung!
A thousand times, proclaim when sung
Like thine sweet name upon my tongue!

O Nightingale, crescendo! Thou song, refine!
And romance like the martyred Saint Valentine!

-I wrote this for my boyfriend-
