First Love

by Tori Hicks   Feb 25, 2010

An awkward smile
From her virgin lips
Sprung a stream of emotions
From his young heart.
With a slow movement
He took his hand in hers
And softly pulled her along
As they walked.
With a squeeze of his hand
She let him go
And danced away
Into the sun.
He felt childish as he chased her,
Caught in a childish game
Of make-believe
And hide-and-seek.
He found her lying in the grass
With sunflowers in her hand
And singing a simple tune
As if no one could hear.
He laid down beside her
Underneath the fair sky,
Barely brushing her skin
As he moved to the ground.
They talked until dark
About anything and everything,
Until they realized
It was time to go home.
They walked hand-in-hand
In the night air
Until they reached the fork in the road
Where they had to separate.
She turned to face him
In the dim moonlight
And smiled at him again
But it was different this time.
Her eyes had changed
And her smile was cautious
As if anxious about
Something that was soon to happen.
He reached his hand
Up to her lily-white face
And gently pulled her towards him
And touched his lips to hers.
After a long moment,
They went their separate ways
But would never forget
This first kiss; their first love.
