9003 Days Without Alice: A World Without You

by Ahmed Ali   Mar 13, 2010

I lit the world on fire,
And let if burn to a degree.
I wanted everything to go down in flames,
Until there wasn't anything left that I could see.

The fire did not spread...
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
I know what I should do next.
I'm going to take it to a different degree.

I flooded the world with water,
And let it drown to a degree.
I wanted everything to sink through the bubbles.
Until there wasn't anything left that I could see.

The water did not consume...
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
I know what I should do next.
I'm going to take it to a different degree.

I blew the world with wind,
And let it twist to a degree.
I wanted everything to be blown away,
Until there wasn't anything left that I could see.

The wind did not maintain,
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
I know what I should do next.
I'm going to take it to a different degree.

I rocked the world with earth,
And let it shake to a degree.
I wanted everything to fall through the rubble.
Until there wasn't anything left that I could see.

The earth did not crumble,
This wasn't the way it was supposed to be.
I know what I should do next.
I'm going to take it to a different degree.

Nothing had worked,
In my pursuit of glee.
The world is still breathing,
As far as my eyes can see.

No matter what I did,
The world did not break.
It's persistence to live,
Is something that I can't take.

So I allowed the world to breathe,
And let things be to a degree.
I'm going to extend the whole of myself,
As far as my eyes can see.

Nothing had previously worked,
Maybe this is the way that it's supposed to be.
I will persist and let this to play out,
I'll allow myself to be taken to a different degree.
