Thinking during that kiss

by Avrii Monrielle   May 6, 2010

I love you!

ah, no, that wasn't it.
was it: you're cute?
how about -- i never met anyone like you.
romeo.
my sweet romeo.

or "yes:
i've met you before.
once upon a lifetime,
i met you before.
yes.
i met you
in my dream.

(no,
i didn't meet you there either.)"

maybe:
there is no other time to do this!
the clock has struck twelve and my shoes are coming undone.
you know who i am now,
you know what i was hiding!
can you see the pumpkin or the little mice,
the things that scavenged my boasted riches?

yes, i irk to know.
i irch to see.
itching in this glitter with my nails in your back:
YES. these childish nails.

or this smile on my face,
this baby face.
ahh. ahh ahh ah, OH i can see you now
as i stand on the stairs in this sparkling pink prom dress.
as i ask for a hug with these eyes of mine,
and these "once-stubby" fingers.

and i realize i don't have to be perfect --
and these yellow undertones,
and asian hair...
they will make the most of me
they won't break me.

not yet.

and these shoes:
yes, these magic shoes,
the ones you helped me pick out
and i picked with reluctance --
as you SAID you didn't like the back,
and aah, ahh, OH, i liked the front .
with those pretty stones
i said looked poetic:

yes and this PRINCESS CROWN
i threw dozens of bags to the floor to find,
the tiara you could barely notice,
oh, i thought you were amazing.
too nice.
too cute.
too sweet.

too PERFECT OF A DAY
and oh, as i stood there in my glittery prom dress
i don't know if i even thought
except...
which moment
i would kiss you!

(the light was pretty.
couldn't find the lamp,
but i found your cheek
with my eyes closed.

were they closed?
i don't know
but i had to pretend
this was reality.
if i thought it a dream
if i thought it weird
that you'd be with me:
well... in that second,
that second during that hug,
i stood longer,
and seized the chance.
this battle was ON!)

there when the light flooded in i FAINTED
[somewhere inside me.]
i FAINTED
[somewhere inside me.]

my shoe got caught in a flood gutter as i sauntered back into the hall
and you (maybe) skipped outside?
how many other girls...
well... i was the only girl
that saw you in that night.
