Rut Stuck Love

by Stephie K   Dec 27, 2010

Spinning our wheels as time slips by
Perpetually stuck in a place of discontent,
If the grass isn't greener on the other side
Why do our aching hearts continue to lament?

We stand up for the country
holding firm to our conviction,
Yet when it comes to personal choice
We live in a world of affliction.

Do we fear what our loved ones will say
If we declare, "We are jumping ship",
Doing nothing finds us back where we began
Immobilized by a paralyzing grip.

Where do we go from here,
The million-dollar question we ask,
Our love for each other says do the right thing
Just release the facade of this mask.

I love you with all of my heart and soul
You give me joy unlike any I have known,
I yearn to hold you in my arms all night long
Without your presence, I feel so all alone.

May we conquer our demons and shrug off our plight
Live life with our heart's true desire,
Only we hold ourselves back from the other
When it is each other we wish to acquire.
