The soldier and the dove

by Mike   Mar 19, 2011

A soldier in a dangerous Battle, overseas and working hard.
Marching through the foreign land, longing for good family time
His friend now dead just lying there, his thoughts filled with dark despair.
Thinking of horrid past mistakes, wondering when the sun will shine.
Considering death and other things, he sent a Prayer up through the dark pines.
"Oh Lord, Please let me get out fine."

One day while walking by himself, a small white blur caught his eye.
From the silence came a coo as soft as a dropping dime.
Not giving it a second thought the soldier kept marching on.
Peering, praying, walking on, he saw a Dove and thought "a sign?"
Reminiscing about his wife, of candle light dinners and drinking wine.
Doves will make everything fine

Smiling while hope and love spread over him all from the dove
A short time later coming home, sighing and crossing the border line
After the darkness now came light, he'd be home with his family tonight.
Surrounded with love in home sweet home, he heard a coo; first one, then nine
Remembering his friend the dove, the bird that made his life now shine.
"thank Lord, my family and I are fine"
