I love how you can take different goddess and use your poetic abilities to write poems such as this one. I bet Greek Mythology is actually quite interesting if one takes the time to study it like you have. You're one of the only poets on this site that I see do this with their poetry. After reading up on Selene and discovering she's the goddess of the moon, I see now why you speak of the sky and stars. You have quite the imagination, only thing I may have liked to see more of is a better image of what she looked like. I read that she was depicted as a beautiful woman with a pale face and long black hair riding a silver chariot pulled by a pair of horses or dragons.. hmm perhaps I'll take this idea and write a poem with it. Not sure, but either way, I guess it would have been a great addition to have the image of what she looked like as well, but the poem is strong as is and had that old mythology feeling to it. Well done Mel!

    I watched wishes at war,
    stars slain -
    too swollen to soar,
    they hung
    ^^
Your opening created the most amazing imagery. I could picture in my mind the stars hanging, motionless.

    Greedy the way that
    those sheep would creep
    and gobble away the stars.

Such originality held in these lines. The word usage in this entire piece makes me want to read more about Selene.
One would think Selene was just an ordinary normal name for a person but with you - one must know to dig deeper ... lol

And after a little searching of my own I found the goddess of the moon and a better understanding of your words were also found.

That is what I adore about your writing Mel. You push the reader to dig deeper and read between lines.
And to gain some knowledge along the journey as well.

    Wonderfully read as always !
