A promise to myself

Your arms were around me,
As tears rolled down my face.
You kissed my head so softly,
Knowing I've hated this place.

You didn't move all night long,
Just holding me near.
You whispered I love you,
Quietly into my ear.

Your smile eventually faded,
Then mine was gone.
You let go of me,
I didn't want to be left alone.

You told me I had to hold on,
Although there was no way.
But looking into your eyes,
I knew that I'd have to stay.

And now you're with him,
I'm in this same position, again.
