Can Love Last Forever?

Believe me I see the look on their face
A kind of something they could not replace
Years of experience and time to waste
It can be one of life's sweetest taste
But the thing about love that no one sees
Is what happens soon after everyone leaves
One look and they know they have been acting
When really their love was all they were lacking
Time took a toll on their poor little hearts
Love had be broken in pieces and parts
After a while, and no one saw
Was the fire between them, beginning to thaw
After years they both knew it, but neither would tell
And finally both left, wishing the other well
Life went on and they found new faces
She in the city, him in many places
All though they did not realize that after a while
They would begin to miss the other one's smile
Looking at her new man, she would stay awake a night
Wishing it was him, holding her tight
That same night, miles away
He had tried to call her that day
They both looked out at the setting sun
Wishing neither of them had run
In a flash she jumped in the car
And he hurried and left the bar
Her heart was pounding; his was, too
They both knew this had to be true
She arrived at the old house the next day
Called him up because she wanted to say:
"I'm sorry I'm calling, I'm sorry I left
Please answer the phone, I'm out on the steps."
After five calls she decided to give up
She walked away when she heard a "Stop!"
Turning around she saw their old neighbor
Rushing towards her, she handed her a paper
The old woman said, "This is from him
I didn't want to tell you what happened to him
Last night he was drunk and driving too fast
He's at the hospital in a full body cast."
She rushed to the car as fast as she could
Hoping it was not too late to say what she should
She arrived at the hospital just in time
To wish her ex husband a final goodbye
She cried and cried and wished he was okay
She held his hand all through the day
The doctor came in and told her to leave
She left, wishing this all was a dream
Walking back to their old home
She unfolded the paper that was strong in her hold
"I'm sorry I left," was the first thing it said
"I'm sorry for everything that I might leave unsaid
But I want you to know more that anything
I meant what I said when I gave you that ring
Never forget that I'm sorry, too
Never forget how much I love you."
Years and years passed and it was her time to leave
So she went out to his grave to say one last thing
She said, "Never forget how much I love you
Never forget that I'm sorry, too
I'm hoping that I'll see you soon
Love lasts forever, as long as love is you."

Oh wow! This is an absolutely great poem! The flow is perfect same with the rhyme. Your word choice brilliant, i can't do nothing but compliment you for this great piece. Some might say it's too long i guess but to me it's not. The length was fine since you were telling a story without it getting boring. I've reread it twiece already because i enjoyed it so much. The emotions are so pure. It's definately a heartfelt write and i do not think that it could be any better! Keep up the good work! Thanks for sharing :)
