Simplicity is Best? Then our Friendship is that of Simplicity

by Nigel   Sep 9, 2011

I do not remember the first time
I met you
Maybe because it simply was too long ago
But I know it was a moment
A singular definitive change
In my life

You talk to me in ways I can only speak to you
And when you speak
I watch not your mouth,
Hear not your words,
But stare deep into those twin globes
Swirling with a fire that gently warms and does not burn
And I never, at least I try not to
Put them out
Even if I really cannot care less
Because you said it

When we fight,
Birds flutter away from the trees
As if the waves of far have broken ashore
Crashing into all that we love
A beautiful sapphire and turquoise marriage
Turned into ages of torment and tragedy
Nights of depression and manic frustration
And every word that explodes from my mouth
Is one sent with heartbreak, immense pain
and fear
Fear that it will be the last of mine you hear
And when this ocean retracts
And years pass and wounds are healed
Trees start to grow and the birds come back
The bridge between us rebuilt
I find no greater relief and torpedoes of furious joy

When one of us is down
The other attracts himself to the situation
Like magnets to metal
Yes, we are different
Very much so indeed
But the bond holds tighter than quarks in an atom
We all know telepathy does not exist
But both you and I know its not true
Because we believe

Sometimes, I wonder why I worry more about you
Than you do yourself
And vice versa
Sometimes, I wonder why I always come back
After we fight
And vice versa
Why it hurts, it spikes, it turns your day, my world
Upside down
Why I call to you, to converse
When I have nothing to say at all
Why I say things exactly when you say it
Why I take the long way around things
Just to talk to you
To follow you
And why you anyway

They say you cannot choose your family
You choose your friends
Well I am glad I chose you
But could I play a game and cheat for once
To say I chose you for part of
Family?
I wonder if you ever felt the same?
I wonder if you care?

No need to say it
I already know
In fact now I remember
Why I do not remember the day we met
Because simply,
I never recall a day I never knew you
And thats perfectly fine with me.
