Does The Story Ever Really Come True

Does one ever know from
whence love comes?
and after that moment, defined
Does anyone know how it also
vanishes to be so unkind?
How can it come and depart
without ever being planned
and it can grow so huge
without ever being fanned?
My heart has felt the glow
that such a feeling brings
and also felt the thrashing pain
that it's departing sings.
I wonder if the pain
is indeed worth all the hurt
some say it is in truth
even being so subvert.
I am not so sure I agree
with that theory of the heart
I have to wonder often
if it should be allowed to start.
For if you never have that fire
then the flames will not cease to glow
and you will never have the pain
and the tugging to and from
One sad fact is that it can happen
over and over again
and always end the same
no matter how it begins.
Like a little boy or girl,
who grew up on her knee
a mother tells a story of love
and how it came to be!
The Princess and the Prince
they lived happily ever after
Started a happy home
and filled it full of laughter.
Now that I am grown
I see the reality
Not a pretty picture
Especially for me.
For that has been my dream
to find that beautiful princess
and place her on my horse
with not any regrets
It seems as I grow older
I have the ugly fate
of having all the love to give
but I myself, I don't rate
For there is not one
my match or who she is to be
who can give with undying love
and fill my heart with glee.
Yes, there are those who come
and eventually they go
The undying kind of love they have
upon me they can't bestow.
Am I forever destined to be alone
wanting but never finding
the one who will stay with me
without ever minding.
Who will give freely of their love,
themselves, not caring for the facts
But hold on to my broken heart
and filling all the many cracks.
Wanting me and only me
allowing me to fill their heart with love
and hold them close to me
until we both are called above.
I cannot say if it is better
to have loved and lost
I do myself have to wonder
if is worth all it cost.
Yet and still, that has not caused me to surrender
my desire to find that one
who will never, never leave me
once true love has begun!
