A Medieval Tragedy

by Lofallenve   Dec 10, 2011

A forbidden love,
Like the moon and the sun;
A sad story resembling,
Something of Romeo and Juliet.
He was but a knight of her realm,
living a lowly life.
She was but a princess,
Already bethrothed and awaiting
to be his ruling queen.
A simple glance from across the court
Serenades silently, a love
that was never meant to be.

As the waves of the sea,
Wash over the changing sands,
Sifting through the glass,
Time soon goes by.
The Princess already now,
the crowned Queen.
Heavy with a child,
A product of an arranged marriage,
The amour towards her Knight,
Still burns brightly
Like a candle in the dead of evening.
For the years that have gone,
the Knight has been demurring
what his heart longs to have.
The love that was made,
was one that could never be had.

Like the folorn tale of that
of Romeo and Juliet,
their love only lived from afar.
The passion in their eyes
Never died, never deminished.
The dream of a kiss,
that never started,
but longed to be finished.
Hope,
But a false angel,
made of wax wings,
Stings the heart like a slow poison.

As the Queen birthes her first prince,
Blood stains the blankets she lays upon,
covering the hands of the midwife.
The wailing of the newly born,
Rings emphatically across the stone,
Echoing back a dying mother's groan--

Rushing into battle,
Without knowledge of his queen,
The Knight falls upon his knees,
Refusing to utter a single plea.
Mercy withheld in the hands of an enemy,
The sword makes its way home,
Deep in the cavity of the Knight's chest.

A forbidden love,
Like the moon and the sun;
A sad story resembling,
Something of Romeo and Juliet.
He was but a knight of her realm,
living a lowly life.
She was but a princess,
Already bethrothed and awaiting
to be his ruling queen.
